An escaped Belgian narrates that some workers in Liege recently refused tc work under impossible conditions, and, as a punishment, eight, including wo- ' men, were arrested and charged with espionage and shot m front of the rest of the inhabitants in the central square of the town. All the workers in Menin who were unwilling to continue working for the , military authorities were beaten with swords and clubs until they returned, while their wives were thrown, into prison. - ■ s ■
