AN APPRECIATION
To the Editor "N.Z. Times.’’ Sir, —I aefc if you would kindly insert these few lanes to show my deep appreciation of tho noble efforts of Dr Thacker in bringing to light the many shortcomings at the Tren t ham camp. I am positive had it not been for his vigilance many more of the troopers would have boon suffering under the system of red-tapeism that is so much in evidence where two or three Government departments have the control of any work in common. I am personally acquainted with the case of a trooper who was brcught to Wellington Hospital from Trentham suffering from pneumonia and pleurisy in the same conveyance and at the same time with a fever patient. He is now interned in the fever hospital. Goodness knows how many more cases of a like nature have .occurred since tho Trentham camp has been established. Although the Minister for Defence has denied officially many of the disabilities the soldiers suffered under you will note that immediately ho put into effect many of the things that Dr Thacker had pointed out as being deficient, and X think that it only requires a suggestion to the mothers and relations of the troopers for them to show their appreciation of the efforts of Dr Thacker for the welfare of their husbands or sons. I might suggest that the ladies’ patriotic committee take this matter up. and I am sure that they will earn the grateful thanks of the many relatives who are not in Wellington showing appreciation to a gentleman who by his tearless advocacy must have saved them many heartburnings.—l am. etc., ONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW DR THACKER.
