RUGBY FOOTBALL
PETONE v. ATHLETIC TO-DAY. The game between Athletic and Petone at the Athletic Park this afternoon should easily be the premier attraction for followers of the sport. Except for the opening match of the season, when the team was short of several leading players, Petone have an unbroken record of successes, and with the club fully represented to-day their supporters are confident of being able to lower the colours of the Athletics. The Athletics have not suffered a defeat thus far, and despite the fact that the Petone team is one of the strongest representing the club for some time, supporters of last year’s champions expect to win even if by a small margin. Other games set down are Poneke v. Oriental at Petone, and Wellington v. Selwyn at The University v. Trentham game will not be played. The big match is set down to start at 2.45. while two good lower grade games will he played to_ retain the interest of those who arrive early.
