Ashcroft has sold his farm at' Marima to a southern buyer Building operations are fairly brisk m Masterton for this time of the yearAmong those killed at the Dardanelles' was Private Noel Milligan, formerly ot Pahiatua, and who was well-known in Masterton. ' , Private E. E. White, who was wounded at the Dardanelles, is a brother of Mrs \V. B. (/Callaghan, of Carterton. The following Pongaroa residents have eniisted:—C. Falk, • G. W. Priest, L. Walker, M. Earner. M. Petersen. L. W. Kins, and F. L. Bustege. The ranks of the Ked Star Football Club will be. further depleted • when the next batch of reinforcements leave Master, ton for Trentham, several prominent members having enlisted. The Eed Star Club has responded splendidly to the call to arms, and has more men in the Now Zealand forces than all the other Wairarapa clubs put together. The Wairarapa Caledonian Pipe Band intend to give a senes of entertainments for the purnose of raising money to provide the nucleus of a fund erecting a monument in Masterton Park to the memory of the Masterton men who fall in the war.

In a ladies’ Wairarapa hockey championship match, Euahine defeated Featherston by 2 goals to nil. Lieutenant A. S. Judd, of Carterton, and formerly a well-known Petone footballer and Wellington representative, has joined the reinforcements. Private E. S. Pull, who was killed at the Dardanelles, was a son of Mr S. A. Pull, formerly storekeeper at Clareville. Mr 0. Pragnell has been, reappointed Government representative on the Masterton Eire Board. It is anticipated that about ■•£30,000 will be collected in Wairarapa for the wounded soldiers’ fund. It is expected that some sensational donations to the fund will he made at the boxing tournament on Wednesday.
