MAGISTRATE’S COURT
MAINTENANCE AND OTHER CASES Yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr D. G. A.. Cooper, S.M. ■ Charged with disobeying two maintenance orders, Percival Green was, for the first offence, sentenced to eight dpys’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on the payment of 5s a week. . For the second breach apenalty of thirteen days’ detention was imposed, in default of the payment of 12s 6d per week. . Mary Douglas proceeded against her husband, Robert Douglas, for separation, maintenance, • and ■ guardianship orders. The application was granted, and the defendant was ordered to pay £2 a week maintenance. Mr B. P. Bunny appeared for the applicant. Charles O’Loughlin was fined £l, with costs- 7s, in default thrge days’ imprisonment, for a breach of his prohibition order. A nominal. penalty of Is, with costs 75,-was imposed on A. and T. Burt for failing to stamp a receipt for £6 11s 9d. Mr C. Nathan (counsel for defendants'' stated that the offence arose out of a mistake by . a clerk, of which the defendants had no knowledge. For using obscene language in Manners street, Samuel Beehag was fined 40s, in default seven days in gaol. Charged with forging the name of Charles Stone to a withdrawal notice for £24, Kathleen Bkrry was remanded to appear at Nelson this morning.
