WILD SCENES IN ENGLAND GERMANS SEVERELY TREATED. By Association— •Copyng’ht LONDON, May 12. As a result of the Lusitania outrage, many shops wore wrecked and. looted in the Fast End, where the crowd, became incensed at a German shouting: “To hell.with England!” . . There were several arrests.. Germans in the East End are or. ganising for’ self-defence. - The disorders at Poplar spread alarmingly. There was a disgraceful orgie of shop-smashing. The occupants- were kicked Cut and ■ struck and beaten, . The crowd overwhelmed the police. Women and children carried off- loaVes and flour. . A German woman, , endeavouring to get her children to safety, was struck down. A neighbouring tradesman evenr tually sheltered the children; • . ; / Tlie mob at Kentish Town smashed the bakers’ carts.
