MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Mr G. Cruicksliank, S.M. • Jfor insobriety, Mary Sprowell was remanded until this morning; 'WiJliam Simpson was fined Jil; or three days’ imprisonment ; Thomas Bates and Patrick U’-Neil, each 10s or forty-eight hours. Karl Bergestrom was fined .fl for a breach of the peace in Manners street. He was convicted and discharged for using obscene language and for resisting a constable in the execution of his duty. Default on the first information was fixed at five days’ imprisonment Owen McEvoy and Harry Bodgere were each, sent to gaol for fourteen days for attempting to steal a sum of- money from a drunken man. They were observed in the act by a youth named Thomas Bacon, who apprehended them and handed them over to the police. This action gained him Magisterial approval. His Worship observing that Bacon had acted like a Briton.
