DESTROYERS SINK A GERMAN SUBMARINE

LONDON, March 5. The Press Bureau reports that destroyers sank the German submarine U 8 off Dover, and took prisoner the officers and crew. [Submarine US belonged to the second group of German under-water craft, and was of 250 tons displacement, with surface and submerged speeds of twelve and eight knots respectively. She had three torpedo tubes and fourteen officers and men were carried.] ANOTHER SAID TO HA\VE BEEN SENT TO THE BOTTOM. LONDON, March 5. The steamer Alston claims to have sunk a submarine in the Channel on the 27th. An inquiry has opened. [The Alston is a steel vessel of 3955 tons gross.]
