FIGHTING INCREASES IN INTENSITY
The Premier has received the following message from tho High Commissioner ; LONDON, March 1, 3.35 a.m. Petrograd reports:—“On the left bank of .the Niemen, north of Grodno, the fighting is increasing in intensity, and has been carried far beyond tho fortifications. , , .... ~ “On both sides the attacks are supported by heavy artillery on tho heights, and tho villages constantly change hands. In an assault on one hill, the Russians captured six guns and several hundred prisoners. “Artillery action at Ossowiec continues. “The enemy, reinforced, re-entered Przasnysz, and after desperate fighting for possession, tho Russians recaptured the town. A large "number of tho German defenders surrendered. “Elsewhere in the same region the Russian progress is important. “The enemy abandoned supply columns and wounded. “Tho Russians aro gallantly striving to develop their successes. “Sixty-eight officers, and six thousand four hundred Germans have been made prisoners. . . “On tho eastern Galicia front from Jassmovetz to Roznatow the Russians severely defeated tho Austrians in the forest fighting, and captured four thousand prisoners.”
