The reproach has been often levelled against Wellington that the people as a whole take small interest in matters artistic. That this generalisation is quite undeserved has been amply proven by the principal of Gilby's College, Christchurch. For some years chis institution has been conducting art courses taught by correspondence, and it is reported that the enrolments from ‘Wellington are well in excess of those from any other centre in the Dominion.
