HOROWHENUA NOTES
From Our Own Correspondent. OTAKI, Monday.
It is understood that the longstanding dispute between the Horowhcnua County Council and the Mana* watu Council, in reference to the main* tenance of the Foxton road, has been settled at last, the former body having agreed to pay Manawatu the sum of £35 a year.
The Life-saving Club at Paekakariki has done excellent work since its formation, and within the past three weeks has been the means of saving more than one life. Among visitors to this popular seaside resort are a number who are far too venturesome, and who risk their lives unnecessarily. Within the past month no less than seven persona have been almost drowned, all getting into the backwash or holes. It was fortunate that on each occasion strong swimmers were handy, and it was through these and the lif*., saving apparatus that the good work i was accomplished.
