THE SAILORS’ FRIEND SOCIETY

A most enjoyable picnic was held in the country'yesterday on grounds kindly lent by friends. There was a large number of sailors present, including the boys of the training ship Amoknra All kinds of games were held under tho direction of Mr J. Moore (missioned, tho following winning prizes : —Messrs Davis, Strongman, Hayward, Jesperson, Hayden. Sewell, Kerr, Eedshaw, Jackson, Jenkins, Shortland, Hards, Stubbs. Muxrel, and Cruller. A concert was hold in the ■ evening, tho Institute being crowded. The Beax-a-hand Club (connected with the society) provided the programme, which was contributed to by the following:—Misses McGee, V, Collins, Messrs Bay IE..M.S. Ruahine). Denton, Cowley (E.M.B. . Ruahine), Miller, Smith. (R.M.S. Ruahine) Wcbhe (s.sStar of Scotland), and W. Jones (s.«, Canopus). Messrs Sign and Miller played the accompaniments. Several popuy lar choruses were sung in good style by the audience, and a month organ competition was , won by Sir Cowlo* (B.M.S. Ruahind). Hearty cheers were given to tho pen, formers, and to all who . assisted In making the day’ such a pronounced buo< cess. The lunch, tea, and supper wore provided by tho workers and/ fmmdd 04 the society. - .. .
