BREEDING OF REMOUNTS
LEGISLATIVE ENCOURAGE- ■ MENT. The Remounts Encouragement Bill, which came before the House yestert day, aims at encouraging the brooding) of horses in New Zealand suitable for military purposes. In order to achievethis object, the Minister for Agriculture is authorised to pay to the owners, of any stallions the sum of £IOO, ia respect of the services of such stallions for any breeding season. Each stallion, must be examined by at least two Government veterinarians, and bo certified as free from hereditary unsoundueest It must boot, such a typo that its progeny are likely to bo suitable for military purposes; and its service* must be available throughout the sea* son for which the subsidy is claimed for the service of such number of mares, at such rates, and on such conditions as may bo prescribed by regulations.
