PETONE FIRE BOARD
BUSINESS AT QUARTERLY MEETING. '
The quarterly meeting of the Petone Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, when there wore present: -Mosers J. W. MoEwian (chairman), E. Mothes, C. H- Smith, H. E. Kompthorno and F.; B. P, China. , It was resolved to raise a messenger, who had been a. member of the brigade for four years to t fie rank of fireman when a vacancy occurs. In the case of a fireman who may he absent from duty; for seven days or longer on account of oiokness or through other causes, it was resolved that the question of payment be treated on the merits of each case that comes before the board. ■ ‘ „ . A sum of J6lO annually is to be paid to the assistant superintendent for ni» services. ' ' " - - :.’ , Superintendent C. Depper reported that the brigade had received two calls during the past quarter, one being a false alarm. The bell at the railway < -.estops (where ten of the brigadesmen are employed) was found to be too small, and a new one was recommended. The board decided to procure a new boll for the workshops at a cost of -210. and to purchase another homo for rise in the fire cart. • ! ■ , After providing for accounts amounting to J 2299 13s the board has a credit balance of .£BO.
