KNOCKED DOWN BY TRAIN

DEATH OF A BELMONT SETTLER. James Kilmister, a farmer residing tit Belmont, was admitted to tho WclUngton Hospital at 5.20 yesterday afternoon and died twenty minutes later. From what can be gathered tho deceased was attempting to cross tho railway lino at Belmont, and apparently did not hear tho train that leaves Lower Hutt at 2.35 o’clock for Upper Hutt approaching tho station, and Was knocked down by tho engine. Tho Injured man was placed aboard tho train and taken to Upper Hutt, where ho received surgical attention, and was Afterwards conveyed by train to Wellington. Upon being examined at tho hospital it was found that his right ■ide was crushed, and ho died soon after admission to tho institution, as stated. Deceased was a married man sixty-seven years of ago, and well known in the Hutt Valley.
