, SOME CHARGES OF THEFT. , Yesterday's sitting of .the Magistrate's Court was presided over by ' -Mr W. G., Riddell, S.M. Charged with carnal knowledge -of a little girls ten' years of age, Lewis James Hocking was further remanded till Wednesday next. Bail was allowed in the sum of £IOO. V For insobriety,, Mary Mclntosh was convicted and discharged, and Margaret Irving was fined 20s, or seven days’ imprisonment. Charged with exposing to view for public sale an indecent photograph, Frederick Bannister was remanded till to-day. ' , , , A plea of not guilty was entered by Arthur Walsh (alias Burgess) and James Smith (alias Griifo), charged with stealing a Post Office Savings Bank box and a revolver, of a total value of 2s. They were remanded for, a week, so that they could employ counsel. , ' THEFT AND OBSCENE LANGUAGE. James Oliver Armstrong and John Chambers were charged with the theft of two pairs of boots, valued at 2/s, the property of Percy William Memmott. Armstrong was a) 80 charged with the use of obscane language. Both accused pleaded guilty. It .was pointed out by Inspector Hendrey that Armstrong had fifiy-siy previous convictions, many of which were for theft. Chambers was no so bad, he having a drink record principally. Chambers was fined 20s, or seven days detention, while Armstrong, for stealing the boots, was sent to gaol tor one month and for the use of the obscene language was ordered to bo imprisoned for twenty-one days. There were also other theft charges preferred against him. On the application of Chief-Detective Brobcrg, accused was remanded to Wednesday next.
