“I always believe in talking a man down to his face, and praising him behind his back,” said Mr Dan Crawford, P.R.G.8., missionary and explorer, in the Town Hall last night. The speaker was referring to his recent tour through the United States of America, when ho said, he had hammered away at the people week after week and his listeners had received the hammering in perfect good humour. Metaphorically speaking, he had knocked them down, and they had not winced. That was the sign of a strong nation.
