ASSOCIATION GAME

(By “Goalkeeper.”) AIL first, second, and third division games are off to-day in honour of the English (League) visitors. This is a graceful act, of the Wellington ifootball Association, which assuredly will lose nothing by it. Matches in tin lower divisions are to be played on town grounds. Corinthians still lead in the senior championship competition, and are likely to continue to do so. Y.M.C.A. are now third, a position quite their duo, but it will take the Ymie boys all their time to get ahead of Thistle or Hospital. HOSPITAL v. THISTLE. A splendid game, well worth, watching I Such was the general run of comments after the above match. It .as a good go, one of the best, the sort that works up the enthusiasm of the crovyd and makes the players go r “all out.” Thistle were without Reid, hut seemed quite satisfied with their team, and had every confidence in it. Hospital tried a little experimenting with their left wing by bringing Pnillips back into tho team, as inside left. “Bill” did not do the “come hack” act very well, being right out of condition, but ho shaped nicely at times. The game itself was very fast, especially in the first half and the latter part of the second. First one team would have all tho advantage, and be almost through, when a well-placed kick would set tho other team in action, and they would be attacking hotly. On the general run of the play, Hospital had much the best of it in the first half, apart from scoring the two goals. Their work was much steadier and their shooting was nearer the mark. The first goal,‘which was obtained by Daily, with a high shot from tho wing, would have been saved with a more experienced “goalie.” The sun no doubt handicapped Porteous in sighting the ball. Hughes obtained the other goal with a fast ground shot, after cleverly manoeuvring around the backs.

The second half was devoid of, any scoring, but the latter part was most exciting, when Thistle were making strenuous efforts to get through. Ferguson, Marshall and company were being well fed by their halves, Rowlands in particular, and bat for the splendid defensive work of the home team, especially Cross, "Wallis, and Cobb, their efforts would have been rewarded. As it was, the attacking forces of each side found the defence opposed to them too strong to penetrate. A feature of the game was the refereeing of Mr Hawkins, of ‘ H.M.SPysohe. He had absolute control, and his decisions were sharp and well on the mark every time. FIXTURES FOiTtO-DAY. The only matches to be played today are as follow: Psyche v.
