LONDON, July 2. In tho semi-final of the men’s doubles Doust made many mistakes, especially in lobbying, varied with faulty volleys. Ho improved in the third set, but his opponents apparently then slackened. The match Wilding and Brookes against the Lowes was a fairly soft thing for tho Australians. The Englishmen drove too squarely, and lost many points through not using cross shots. BROOKES AND AVILDING NOT AN IDEAL PAIR. (Received July 3, 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 3. At AVimbledon, tho heat was temyiered by a cool breeze. Mr Balfour and Lord Methuen were present. AVilding and Brookes were not an ideal pair, owing to Brookes being a left-bandar. Wilding's play was tactically unsound. Ho often forced Brookes out of position. Dixon and Roper Barrett were expected to attack these weaknesses in the challenge round. Doust, in ■ the third set, was tho most brilliant of tbe four. He poached bravely, bringing off dazzling rollers against Lowe. Brookes made sixty-five winning strokes and forty-five_ losing, Wilding fifty winning and - thirty-sis losing. Gordon Lowo served finely and scarcely missed a volloy, but A. U. Lowe’s service was weak.
