The Federated Women’s Societies of Germany have decided to petition the Government to make it legal for indefinite sentences of imprisonment to be passed on drunken husbands who illtroat their wives and children. Numerous speakers at a meeting of the societies stated that there was no other, way of combating tbe danger to tile dives and morals of drunkards’ families. It is proposed that drunkards shall be kept in prison as long as there is any probability that they- would . abuse, thcii liberty by committing further excesses Mr. E. B. Vance, Secretary of the Wellington Operatic Society, Mr. Victor Coleman, late of Fernhill Club Dunedin, and now Proprietor of the CluVHo’tel, Invercargill, and many others can vouch for the fact that Smokers’ Throat is rapidly relieved ■ by- gargling-'-undiluted “ Flucnzol" at short intervals. 1M A branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade has been formed at Pahiatua, with a membership of nineteen. - '
