Corinthians were first out on to the field, and seemed to be very popular. Hospital, toe, received an ovation. The Porirua stalwarts won the toss. The first few minutes were uneventful. Roberts (Corinthians’ ontside right) was playing a fast game. Hospital were showing beautiful combination, Elliott, outside right, making a 1 fine attempt to ecore. Skinner, heating no loss than three Corinthians, took the ball along, and from a scrimmage it went ever the line; For some time the hall; continually went oyer the line at Corinthians’ end, then Corinthians attacked, strongly, ; Roots pushed Gibfon and from a- penalty, Ballard tried for a• goal. The .keeper saved well, but the hall rebounded right on to Ballard’s foot, who scored at the second attempt. Corinthians ,1, Hospital Q. Hospital were on their mettle and from Daily’s passing, three or four unsuccessful shots were tried. Later on, . Hughes potted with his head, and missed by inches, the goalkeeper (Hodge) knocking the ball over the bar, Hospital were very insistent, Rutter (Corinthian back) next saving well from an attack by Daily. Hospital were playing -excellent football, but Roberts brought the hall down, beating several men. - From his kick, Gibson, headed it at the goal. At first it appeared as if the keeper had effected a good save, but the ball had just gone through, and so the referee ruled. Corinthians 2, Hospital -0. Shortly after, Roberts repeated his tactics, and made a fine shot. Once more he centred, and Gibson headed the ball, which struck, the bar. On the rebound, O’Shea caught it with his foot and scored. Corinthians 3, Hospital 0. O’Shea kicked another goal immediately after, but he was off-side. At this stage, Dunoan (Hospital left half) retired for a few minutes hurt. Corinthians were pressing hard again when the whistle went, and the spell ended with Corinthians 3, Hospital 0. After resuming, the southerly had become so light that the change of ends made no difference, but what 1 ittle air there was blew , against Corinthians.- 'Notwithstanding this, the latter team shewed dash and combined play,, Ballard centring and O’Shea missing a goal by too high shooting. After each of Corinthians’ attempts, Hospital bucked up,’ and after this particular one, the Porirua men pressed hard, and Heath, essaying a low shot from thirty ...yards, out, missed by about three yards. Play was mostly. in Corinthians’ half, but try as they would, Hospital could not score. Several times the ball crossed the line, but never in the right spot. On one occasion, Jarroy (Corinthians’ centre-half), when the black and whites carried the fight into their opponents’ half, mad® a fine attempt at goal by a kick fifty yards out. A little later * when the ball returned, Hughes (Hospital) made a valiant try which almost succeeded. Hospital by this time were somewhat disheartened, and would certainly have scored otherwise. From a shot by Heath, a scrimmage occurred in front of the goal. Hodge lay on the ball and threw out. Then Roots essayed a shot, but vainly. The wjnd was now blowing with some force, and darkness was falling rapidly. O’Shea made an unsuccessful shot, but the hall was almost invisible to the spectators. Skinner tried to break Hospital’s spell of ill-luck, but it was no good. Heath tried once more, but Hodge was always on the spot.
