POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. Yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Air D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Alay Sidon was sent to prison for a month, for vagrancy. _ ■ , For insobriety, William Tearo ana Andrew Williamson were each fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ detention. IDLE AND DISORDERLY.
Annie Maud Sales, who was described by Inspector Hendrey as “a germ carrier,” and a woman, with twentyfour previous convictions, was scut to gaol for sis months for being an incorrigible. rogue and vagabond. Daisy Simanelhag (a sister of the previous accused), whose children Inspector Hendrey said were being kept at the expense,, of the State while the mother lived an idle, disorderly, and vicious life, was sent to gaol for a similar period for being an incorrigible rogue.
AN HOTEL ‘‘INCIDENT.” James Eaton pleaded .not guilty to a charge of using threatening behaviour in the public bar of the Foresters Arms Hotel, whereby a breach’pf the peace was occasioned. Evidence was, "iven that a man named McGrath hao complained to a, constable what the accused bad assaulted him. The accused at the time here evidence of having been fighting. McGrath was considerably under the influence of liquor. The evidence also showed that, the accused had been insulted. The Magistrate said that as defendant had received some provocation, .he would merely convict and discharge him. BY-LAW OASES. Jacob Meier, for riding a motorcycle without a registration mark, was fined ss. with court costs 7s. HaTold Andrews, charged with leaving a dray unattended, and with leaving a cart insufficiently lighted, was fffieff ss, with court costs 7s, on each McDonegall, for driving a lorry along Willis street without lin-hts, was fined os, with court costs Norwood, for leaving a cat without lights in Lamb ton quay, was fined Is, with court costs 7s. It was explained that the lights were blown out by the wind. ’ , Douglas Wilkins and John Williams, for driving vehicles without lights after sunset, were each fined ss, with court costs 7s. Leslie Short, for exceeding vhe speed limit on the was fined 10s, with court costs 7s. Charles Russell pleaded guilty to three informations charging him wit-n allowing horses to wander at Nona Bay. H© w.as fined os on each charge. Court costs 7s were allowed on the first charge. Alexander Sammons, on two charges of allowing horses to wander at Eastbourne, was fined 5s on each charge. A third charge was not pro-red. J. M. Hay, for not complying with a Miramar drainage by-law, was fined os. with court costs 7e. "Eor allowing stock to wander, Frank Wills, R.
