Gillies had 5 holes in fours, and 4 holes in threes. He could have done the sixth hole in 2, but feared the stymie. At the eighth hole it was at the back of the pin with the first putt. Gillies plays Graham, which recalls the struggle between these two players in the fifth round of the championship in 1910, when Gillies was defeated. Playing against Gillies, Graham turned one up. Gillies levelled it at the tenth hole, but was two down at the sixteenth.
