CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
MEETING OF WELLINGTON SOCIETY.
A meeting of tbe Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last evening, and was attended by Mr Meredith, (chairman), Mesdames Seville, Christie, Kernot, Wakelin, Rev. J. R. Glasson, Messrs Webb, Jamieson,, and Eliott, and Captain Henry (the new inspector). Inspector Seed, in his final report, recorded having witness a horse yolked to a milk-cart being severely flogged over the head and body with a whip. So far ho had been unable to trace the driver, but inquiries were still being made. The fall of a hors© drawing a load of vegetables while being backed into the fruit market was reported by the inspector, who stated that several such falls had occurred in various cartentrances in the city, caused by the unevenness of the wooden blocks. —It was decided that a letter be written to the City Council, asking for improvement in the manner of laying blocks in cart-entrances.
The sub-committee which had been set up to report on tbe financial position of the society, recommended that a concert should be bold in the Town Hall for the purpose of increasihg the funds, as well as bringing the aims ol the society more prominently before the public.—This was agreed to.
