"PURELY NON-PARTY”
A new publication has made its appearance under the style of “John BulL Jr.” —and the threat is made that it has “come to stay.” After perusing the first issue we are reconciled in respect of any regret that might have been occasioned by the opening announcement that it is ‘‘the only penny weekly of the kind in the Dominion.” The baby paper calls itself “a purely non-party journal,” and then abuses Sir Joseph Ward. Mr Wilford, Mr Isitt, Mr Atmore, and —need we add? —the “New Zealand Times.” It contains a lament on the result of the recent Wellington Harbour Boardchairmanship election, and cartoons displaying the Tories in most heroic attitudes and Liberals as aDeolutely crashed. In very many respects, there almost appears circumstantial evidence that the new enterprise is intended to partly atone for the deficiencies of “Light and Liberty.’ Por a “purely non-party journal” it is certainly very generous to the Massoyites, devoting the greater part of one page to displaying the names of selected Tory candidates for the general election. Really, we are almost afraid that the Liberals will be dreadfully alarmed at this “purely nonparty journal,” which, by the way. is printed at the office of the squatters’ organ. But that may be only an accidental circumstance- However, we must all hope for the best.
