The Very Rev. Dean Holley, S.M., of Wanganui, will leave on Tuesday en. route for Belgium, where he will attend the General Chapter of the Mari&t Society. The Rev. Father Mahoney, 5.i1., 6 will discharge the duties of parish priest during his absence. News was received yesterday of the death in Christchurch of Mr Alec Hill. Prior to his departure for Now Plymouth some ten' years ago, the late Mr Hill was well known in athletic and musical circles locally. For some years he was president of the Oriental Football Club. On leaving Now Plymouth ho went to Timaru, where ho occupied tho position of district manager of tho Ocean Accident Company, and subsequently held a similar position in Christchurch. Mr Hill married a daughter of Mr J. J. Curtis, of this city. Messrs Baldwin and Ray ward, Patent Attorneys, of 215, Lambton quay, Wellington, New Zealand, report that they have filed tho following applications for patent of New Zealand recently:—C. A. Harrison, London, England, incandescent lamp; R. T. p. Patent Wheels Prcpy., Ltd., Melbourne, resilient wheel; W. K. Ucborlson, Kelhurne, Wellington, couplings for Westinghouse, etc., brakes; E. Maddern, Piangiotu, Palmerston North; wire strainer; G. L. D. James, Wellington, carcase W. H. Edwards, Wellington, seat; D. Elder, Onehunga, Auckland, gardens, etc., spraying; J..M. Taylor and H. Oakley, Christchurch, acetylene gas generator; G. Moore, Joplin, U.S.A., ball-bearing material treating; W. A. Hutson, Kansas City, T.S.A., flying machine. A little soap applied with a point of a lead pencil will remedy a squeaking hinge.
