BASEBALL LEAGUE

FORMED IN WELLINGTON .LAST. NIGHT. A meeting convened for the purpose of forming a Baseball League m Weilingtdn was held in. the i.M.C.A. rooms last evening. . There was a large attendance, and Mr A. E. Whyte presided. ■ , , The chairman said he understood that those present knew the object of the meeting. Ho would give someone else, who was more conversant with the game of baseball, an opportunity to give some hints about it. Mr Jv McDonald stated that in the United States baseball was played for seven months of the year, and every day of the week, including Sundays; He had spent six months endeavouring to organise a league in Wellington, but was unable to muster enough members likely to take a keen interest in it. However, Mr Moore was also toiling in the same direction, and thanks to his efforts the meeting had been organised. There was already a league in Christchurch, and ho could see no reason why one should not he organised in this, city. He moved: “That a league be started in Wellington. to he called the ‘Wellington Baseball League.” Mr D. Morris seconded the motion, which was carried. The chairman said he understood there was a possibility of getting together at least six or seven teams. Mr B. F. Willis moved: “That a committee ho set up to draft a constitution and rules of the game, and report to a meeting to he held within one month.”- This was carried and the following committee was appointed: —Dr Dales, Dr L. P. Haywood, Messrs A. E. Mbyte, J. 0. McDonald (central). P. Harrison, J. N. McClintock (Newtown), L. Webb (Khaijdallali), R. Anderson (tramways). H. Rogers (Y.M.C.A.), W. P. Pondo (Australians), K■ M. Little, F. R. Granvill (Seatoun). Mr K. Moore was appointed secretary to the league. Dr Hales, Messrs J. McDonald, and P. Harrison explained, by means of a diagram, the rules of the gam© to those present. ' The secretary was instructed to write to the New South Wales and Victorian Leagues for a copy of their rules.
