DARING OUTRAGE
CARD-PLAYERS HELD UP MONEY AND JEWELLERY STOLEN. Jj Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright SYDNEY, May 0. A daring outrage occurred, in the early hours of this morning. Four men wore playing cards in a Hot iso in Darlingiinisfc, when four desperadoes rushed into the room, held up the players ;u the pistol point, rifled tho house, and escaped with money and jewellery valued, at £3OO. MOST SENSATIONAL FOR YEARS. (Received May 0, 8.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 5. This morning’s hoid-up was the most sonsaiional for years. It occurred at 1 o’clock. About twenty persons were in the house celebrating tho birthday oi ono of the family, when suddenly a tall masked man entered, presented a revolver, and demanded “Hands up!” The party was staggered. The masked man then whistled, and three others appeared. The owner of tho house entered a protest, but was silenced by the cursing of the men who pushed revolvers in his face.
The party stood in a semi-circle while tihe intruders calmly went through, their pockets. They stole £COO in money and jewellery. One of tho guests attempted to escape by a back door, but a robber promptly fired a revolver, bringing him to a standstill.
After clearing out tbe party, the men backed through the door, still threatening with revolvers. They- boarded motor-cars, and decamped.
Later, detectives arrested David Keenaiban, aged twenty-five, who was charged with assaulting and robbing one of tbo guests. Ho was remanded on bail in.' £I6OO.
