“ I’LL KILL HIM ! ” EVIDENCE AT MAGISTERIAL INQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Association—CO'jyright (Received April 7, 11.45 p.m.) PARIS, April 7. At the inquiry into the shooting of M. Calmette, editor of the “Figaro,” M. Poincare informed the magistrate that M. Gaillaux asked for an interview on the day of M. Calmette’s assassination. M. Caillaux told him that he feared the “ Figaro ” would publish letters involving his -wife, iio said : “If Calmette publishes our letters, I’ll kill him.” M. Poincare endeavoured to calm Al. Caillaux. Eater he conferred with M. Doumergue with a view to dispelling M. Cciiliaus's fears. lie bad just arranged to use his influence to prevent the publication of the letters when he heard of the murder.
M. lleichep, sub-editor of the “Figaro,” gave evidence that M. Caillaux, a month before the crime, told a member of tbo staff of the “ Figaro ” that unless M. Calmette ceased his campaign he would kill him in a. duel. _ M. Lataarus, a journalist, denied that M. Calmette intended fo publish the letters. He said that their contents had been bandied about on all sides. No newspaper dared to sully its columns w’ith the letters.
