A. & P. ASSOCIATIONS

CONFERENCE AT HAWERA. Press Association. HAWERA, April 6. An . important conference of representatives from the Taranaki, Stratford, Hawera, Waverloy, and Wanganui A. and P. Associations was held at Hawera to-day. Fourteen delegatee were present, and Mr B. C. Lysaght, president of the Egmont Association, was in the chair. Matters affecting the different associations wore discussed and remits adopted for presentation to the Board of Agriculture, It was decided that it be a recommendation to the Wanganui Association to alter its dates in the direction of holding its show ono week after Palmerston North Show, instead of a fortnight as at present, other shows along the coast to follow in serial order. Resolutions were passed bringing under the notice of the Dominion conference the advisablcnoss of giving a central body powers of enforcing the rulings of the conference by disqualification or otherwise, similar to that given other large bodies.' Remits to the Board of Agriculture included the following:—That the Government be asked to exhibit portions of their State farm stock at shows, A feeling was expressed that stock on. the experimental farms should be allowed to compete at shows with private individuals, and a motion that this stock be for exhibition only was lost. Remits were also carried asking the board to bring before the Government the need for more satisfactory methods for the eradication of noxious weeds, especially ragwort and blackberry; also for experiments with a view to removing the common fern on hill country. A resolution was carried urging the hoard to bring under the notice of the Government the scarcity of suitable farm labour in the country.
