SWIMMING

( THORNDON CLUB. Tho Thomdon Club invited the president and vice-presidents of the club and ladies to afternoon tea on Saturday afternoon at Thomdon baths. Tho weather was dull, hut a large number of friends and supporters were present. In the course of the proceedings, Mr T. Ronayne, tho president, presented the following prizes:—The Duthio Cup, trophy presented to the champion team of schoolboys, was won this year by the representatives of tho Marist Bros.' School, who were captained by Master J. Garrett. This is the first time for seven years that the Clyde quay school has been defeated for this trophy. Two prizes presented by the Thomdon Club were won by Miss 0. McLoan, who was successful in winning the two ladies’ handicap races. A cup, for the junior championship of tho club, was presented to Master J. Garrett, who scored most points in tho junior events this year. A trophy was handed to AV. Thomas, who was second, and to N. Skinner, who finished third. During the afternoon a ladies’ handicap (50yds) and the preliminary heats m the President’s Handicap were decided, with the following results: Pt*ident’s Handicap.—First heat--L. MCCaskey (lOsec) 1, AV. Lomas (5) 2, S. Hudson (1) 3. Also started—C. Davidson 20, AV. Thomas 20, J. Thomas scr. Time, 85 2-ssec. Second heat— R. AVatson (2) 1, J. AAMreham (6) 2, J. Garrett (5) 3. Also started—H. Desmond 20, AV. R. King 18, S. Henrys 5. Time 76 4-ssec. Third heat—R. Evans (scr) 1, T. H. McLean (10) 2, AV. O’Meara (9) 3. Also started—D. Biggie 10, G. Desmond 9, J.. D. Burns 6. Time 77 l-ssec. Evans won easily. Ihe final will be decided this evening. . Ladies’ Race.— Miss McLean 1, Miss Cairns 2, Miss Arthur 3. Miss Gihbes, Miss Thompson, and Miss Bolton also competed.
