PEACE PRESERVATION BILL. BANISHMENT CLAUSE. RETAINED. Gy Telegraph—Presa Association—Copyrlghi (Received March 15, 5.5 p.m.) CAPETOWN, March 15. The Senate, by 23 votes to 10, rejected the Hon. W. P. Schreiner’s amendment to delete the banishment clause of the Peace Preservation Bill. General Smuts emphasised that the departure of thousands of workers was the result of the deported men’s and their followers’ action. He feared that the cherished white ideal would be shattered.
