HOUSE PICNIC

About one hundred employees and their’friends assembled • at the annual staff outing of Messrs Watkins, Tyer and Tolan at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on Saturday. The park, with its picturesque surroundings, was gaily decorated with bunting, and the excellent condition of the sports grounds contributed in a great, measure to the success of .the. gathering. A long sports programme -was got through, and the results are as follow: Apprentices’ Race.—G. Nelson 1, E. Beale 2. Men’s Sack Race.—E, Beale 1, Wickham 2. Ladies’ Nail-driving Competition.—Miss Durrant 1, Mrs Thyne ‘2.' Watkins, Tyer and Tolan Handicap (120 yards).—First heat; L. T. Watkins 1. H. W. Tolan 2: second heat: G. Nelson 1, E. Beale 2; third heat: P. Barcham 1. B. Roberts 2; final: G. Nelson 1, 8.. Roberts 2, P. .Barchara 3- Open Handicap-(ladies).-—Miss Moss 1, Miss Manning 2. Thread-the-Needlo Competition.—Miss Trezise and Mr Durrant 1. Married Men’s Handicap.—Mr T. Thyne 1, F. Porter 2. Open Handicap (men’s)i —A. Clingborg 1, F. Porter 2. Single Ladies’ Handi-cap.-—Miss Manning 1, Miss Luke 2. A guessing competition was won by Mrs Porter. After tea the prizes were presented by Mrs T. L. Watkins, to whom a hearty/vote of thanks was tendered. Cheers for the firm and the picnic committee concluded a very pleasant gathering.
