DEMAND FOR RESIGNATION OF SCHOOLMISTRESS. The Derbyshire village of Dronfield was lately up in arms , because Miss Outram, the headmistress of the local Council School, had been explaining the origin of birth to the girls prior to their leaving and making a start in life. The local school managers discussed the matter, and reported it to the County Education Committee, with a recommendation that Miss Outram be asked to resign. ■ The County Cordmittee has replied that they did not consider it necessary to hold an inquiry into the facts, as they appeared to be admitted. Nor did they agree to Miss Outram being asked to resign. When the news reached the town there was a storm of indignation. The managers met again, and a number of mothers wont to the room, and their requests to be beard were granted. Copies of their evidence were forwarded to Derby, with a further request for an inquiry. As a protest against the action of the authorities, a number of mothers kept their girls away from school. ’
