VICIOUS CRIMINALS

To the Editor "N.Z. Times.”

Sir,- —Your correspondent “A New Zealander” in your issue of to-day is up in arms about the crimes committed by half-witted or drunken men, and recommends most dire pe.naltieSi but he has not much to say about the more dangerous and vicious criminal who is unfortunately altogether too common, and who appears to be encouraged and protected by our present laws, because this type ot criminal very rarely gets into court, and still more rarely finds his way to gaol, although his crimes cause widespread misery and suffering, very often involving further crimes and death itself. “A New Zealander” should also remember the parable about him who is without sin throwing the first stone. —I am, etc., N.Z. ■
