The Colonial Auxiliary Forces longservice medal has been awarded to Lieutenant Michael Marr, for 21 years 97 days’ service in the King's forces, Mr C. A. Ewen general manager for New Zealand of the Commercial Union Insurance Company, Limited, is at present on a visit to Auckland. Mr J. G. W. Aitken, who underwent an operation a few weeks ago, continues to improve. He is still confined, however, to a private hospital. Mesdames Monckton, Mun-ro, Owen, and Rattray: Messrs Brown, McLear, D’Arcy, Hardwick, V. Reid and Rattray were passengers from the north by the express yesterday. A musical programme was gone through, and then Mr and Mrs Mixßain were presented with a purse of forty sovereigns and a silver tea and coffee service. Messrs Andrew, L. Atkins, F. Burnell, and M. Winiata spoke to the sterling qualities of the recipients. Mr M. O. Rigarlsford, for many years in business as a butcher in Molesworth street,' died at his residence, 16, Portland crescent, early yesterday morning, after a long, and painful illness. Born at Stanwell, England, in 1846, he came to New Zealand in 1884, and commenced business in Molesworth street three years later, from which, he retired a few years ago. The deceased gentleman had been in' ill-health for some years past,. the immediate 'cause of death being heart trouble. He is survived by a. widow, throe sons, Messrs R. Rigarlsford (Wellington Harbour Board), George Rigarlsford (Waingawa Butchery), and O. Rigarlsford (G.P.0.), and one daughter, Mrs McNieoll (Palmerston North). A sister of Mr Rigarlsford’s, Mrs M. Hill, of Gillingham, Kent, England, is at present on a visit to her relations in Wellington.
