W.C.T.U. CONFERENCE

MAJORITY RULE wanted. Press Association. GISBORNE, March 12. The election of officers for the W.C.T.U. resulted as follows:—President, Mrs Don (Dunedin); vice-presi-dent, Miss Powell (Palmerston North); corresponding secretary, Miss Henderson (Christchurch); recording secretary, Mrs Mitchell (Kaio-poi); treasurer, Mrs Bendeley (Auckland). The conference passed a resolution expressing satisfaction at the increase in the birthrate and a decline in the death rate, paying a tribute to Dr Truby King for his work in the direction of the protection of infant life. A further resolution reaffirmed the principle of majority rule, and urged local unions to try to induce voters to promise to withhold their votes from candidates not undertaking to remove, or substantially reduce, tho *threefifths majority on the liquor question. The resolution also urges the electors to vote for local and national option.
