HANDLING FROZEN MEAT
MR ESTILL REPLIES TO MR LYSNAR,
Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 11
In conversation with a reporter tonight, Mr J. H. Estill, Commercial Superintendent of the Fort of London Authority, referring to a message from Gisborne on the subject of the handling of New Zealand meat at the Victoria Docks, said that in all his speeches ho had stated that all New Zealand meat was lifted by electric elevotors from the ship’s hold; and taken by endless belts to the sorting table under cover. From the sorting table the meat was expeditiously taken to insulated vans, waggons, or barges practically alongside. Ha had. certainly never wished to convey the impression that tho endless halts worked tea moat into vans, etc., themselves. The point was that the existence of tho elevators and tee endless conveyers for the discharging of Now Zealand meat at the Royal Victoria Docks had been denied. He (Mr Estill) emphatically states that these appliances were used for New Zealand meat. The High Commissioner said there had been no alteration _ in the method of handling meat sinco’Mr Lysnar’s last visit to England, and there was no excuse _ therefore for Mr Lysnar’a apparent ignorance of these facilities. Mr Lysnar had not, to his knowledge, previously mentioned sorting tables.
