WELLINGTON SHAPES BADLY
IN HAWKE’S BAY. THEIR EXHIBITION DISAPPOINTING. ‘ Press Association, HASTINGS, February 6. Wicket and weather were alike satisfactory for the Wellington-Hawke’a Bay match, and some very good form waa shown, the Hawke’s Bay men especially doing wall with the willow. Hindmarsh compiled his 50 by sound batting, scoring freely all round the wicket. .Board looked like making a big score when he played on to Saunders. Ellis scored freely, ae also did Blamires. Filton was shaping very well when he was dismissed by a good catch by Quinn, Saunders was the most successful; trundler for . Wellington, and was never collared. Qrimmett bowled better than his figures would indicate, especially after the first few overs. The Wellington fielding waa good on the whole, and never showed signs of slackness. Wellington’s display with the bat was very disappointing, something better than 115 being expected from them. Wilson was shaping well when. Napier got a good one past him. Howe was in a kmg time for 22, and looked, like stopping when he put one up in the slips. Bcechey played the best cricket for his side, and was scoring freely when a good one from Napier found his wicket. Grimmett showed some pretty strokes in compiling 15, while Harris and McGirr batted soundly, besides running well between the wickets. Napier took the bowling honours _ with four for 48, while Fulton, who did not go on until late, secured three for 7. Creed was also treated with respect, his figures reading two for 11. With a lead of 127, Hawks’s Bay went in again and ran- up 73 for three wickets, Creed batting well for 3ft not out. Qeake was also doing well until a. mistake in running cost him his wicket. When stumps were drawn, Hawke’s Bay had a lead of 200 runs, with seven wickets to fall. Scores: : HAWKE’S BAY.—First Innings.
