ILL-FATED MOA

WHAT MORNING BROUGHT NO TRACE OF THE VESSEL. Press Association. WANGANUI, February 4. The coastal steamer Moa_, still burning, after the explosion of some of her inflammable cargo, drifted about a couple of miles seaward last evening till 7.30, when there was another terrific explosion. The flames continued to burn, but soon began to subside and died out, and by this morning there was no trace of her. The pilot, Captain Mclntyre, is of opinion that she sank about two miles south-ufast of the harbour entrance, and a similar distance off the shore in a locality where the chart shows between sixty and seventy feet of water. Ho thinks that if she was still afloat she would still be in sight of the pilot station, and if his surmise is correct and the steamer has gone to the bottom she will not be any danger to navigation.
