RELIEF OF DISTRESS

THE STRIKE FUND COAIMITTEE ISSUES REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The Wellington Distress Committee lias issued a report upon its activities during the recent industrial trouble, together with a summary statement of receipts and expenditure. Airs Donaldson (president) and Airs Siggins (secretary-treasurer), who sign the report' on behalf of the committee, exnross groat appreciation of the many kindnesses extended to tho committee by tradespeople, various. unions, and the Federation of Labour; by country sympathisers, who sent meat, poultry, vegetables, milk, eggs, butter, etc.; by tho fishermen, for their donation of fish; by the ladies of the investigat ing committee, who, through careful inquiry, enabled tho committee to reach many necessitous cases, which might otherwise have been overlooked; by tho collectors for their untiring ef forts to increase the funds; and by the storemen, expressmen, and those in charge of the vouchers and books. Following is the main financial statement:—

The auditor, Mr H. Bolton, certifies that the statement of receipts and expenditure given above is a true and correct summary of the committee’s transactions, as recorded in the books of accounts, which, ho remarks, were kept in a very efficient manner. In connection with two items for wages appearing in the summary of administration, it is explained that no wages were paid out of the fund to anyone during the strike. The wages there referred to were paid for services rendered after the strike had been declared oft.
