Fifty of the Herefordshire schools are closed, and it is believed that thirty moro will bo obiged to follow suit. Schoolgirls at Ledbury took possession of tho schoolrooms after tho morning lessons, overturned tho desks, spilt the ink, and . wrote' notices on tho blackboards upholding tho teachers on strike. Lator, the larger girls held a meeting in tho playground, and resolved to strike. They hustled tho new mistress from tho school and guarded tho doors. Non-strikers (entered through tho windows and free fights resulted. The strikers, however, held possession for, tho remainder of tho afternoon., QA previous cablo message stated that eighty elementary schools in Herefordshire would close on Monday, the teachers having resigned owing to the authorities "refusing’ a scale of salaries equal" to that in other‘countries. Tho National Union Of Teachers has guaranteed tho strikers salaries fo’r five years and will sustain for three mtmths uncortificated teach-, ■ers not belonging to tho union.]
