AN ART UNION CASE
Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 3. The Domain fete lottery ease came before Ml- H. t\ r . Bishop, S.M., again this morning, having been adjourned from the previous week. H, J. Besivick, chairman of the Christchurch Domain Board, was charged last Monday with establishin;’ a scheme by which prises were gained by a mode' of chance, to wit, an art union in connection with the Christ* eluireh Domain Rose Carnival, which art union was drawn at Christchurch on December 31st. Beswk-k assumed all responsibility in the matter. This morning Sub-Inspector McKinnon said ho had been instructed by the Commissioner of Police to ask that the charge be withdrawn, as the ohier-t. of the prosecution had been attained. and it was not desired to make BeSw'ick a scanegoat for the citizens of Christchurch. His Worship allowed thO charge to bC Withdrawn, as tong, he sajdi as the public understood this sort of thing, could not be allowed. If no withdrawal had.hesn asked for he Would only have inflicted a nominal penally.
