THE ANNUAL; SALE

The annual sale ol Mr lan Duncan s Walkanae yearlings took place at his private stables, Thorndou quay, yesterday afternoon. There was a good. attendance of sportsmen, hut bidding was very slow for the majority of the draft. Fourteen lots were submitted and they realised 1,005 guineas;, or an, .average of a little over guineas each, and altogether it va.s not a very satisfactory return. A chestnut' filly by Downshire from Parity, the dam of True Knight (at one time owned by Sir George Clifford), Pure Lass and Masonic topped the scale. She is a beautiful. hb Y, and after some competition Mr Eric Eiddiford secured her for 525 guineas. A bav filly by Hierarch-Peace, a half-sister to The Hague, brought 220 guineas and was secured by Mr F. Armstrong at that price. A halfsister to Peronilla by Bezonian was sold for IGO guineas, Mr H. M. Speed being the purchaser, while Mr G. L. Greenwood secured a filly by Achilles —Chinwig, a full sister to Historiette, which he still owns, for 125 guineas, and Mr D. H. Eiddiford obtained a bay colt by Danube—Mistime, a ■ sister to Miscount, for a like sum. Mr V. EkiWifovd was the suocesful bidder for a filly by Achilles —Two Step, a half-sister to Martian Princess, tho price offered being 105 guineas, and Mr E. Eiddiford secured a bay colt by Charlemagne—Shepherdess, therefore a half-sister to Boris, for 100 guineas. One lot, a chestnut oolt by Boris—-Camarilla, was not offered as he injured himself early in .January, and two lots were passed. Details of the sale are:—
