Mr D. A. Aiken, whoso promotion to the position of general manager oi the Union Company is announced, was horn at Wanganui in 1865 and f was educated at tho Wanganui Collegiate School. Ho gained his earlier mercantile experience in tho office of Messrs Taylor and Watt, of Wanganui. After serving five years, Mr Aiken joined the Union Company’s Wellington office as cashier in 1883. Subsequently he served as corresponding clerk. Hater on he was transferred to the head office at Dunedin as superintending purser, and was afterwards inspector, and lately assistant general manager. During the recent strike Mr Aiken was located in Wellington, and was in constant touch with events. Mr Aiken’s promotion takes place on January Ist.
