COMPANIES' FBEEDOM OF SELECTION. Tho executive, consisting of Messrs F. Curtice, G. G. Farland, and G. Bruce, then waited on Mr W. A. Kennedy and explained the position to him. They asked that tho men be reinstated on those steamers on which they had been working when the "stop work" meeting was called. Mr Kennedy in reply said that the men had terminated their agreements and the employers were' at perfect liberty to engago any men they chose. This the employers did, selecting the men they thought suitable for the work that had been left. This matter had been dealt with by individual employers, and if they gave their opinions it would not necessarily bo the official opinions of the disputes committee.
