The tender of Messrs J. H. Meyer and Co. was accepted by the Harbour Board last night for the erection of Pipitea wharf store No. 1. The wharves and accounts committee recommended that the engineer be authorised to obtain prices from selected British firms for two or three highspeed overhead electric cranes for the Pipitea wharf store No. 1, and to empower Messrs Matheson and Williams, Ltd., consulting engineers, to net for the board in England. An amendment by Mr Hindmarsh to strike out the word “British” (on the ground of the existence of trade combines) was defeated, and the recommendation was agreed to. Tho Harbour Board last night amended By-law No. 191 to provide foi a reduction of lOd a ton off the inward wharfage on shipments of fruit condemned by the Agricultural Department.
