PITCHED BATTLE

MADRID, October 20. • There was a pitched battle at Mar* cilia between rival gipsy tribes over the profits from the sale of mules and donkeys, men and women participating. The onlookers wisely refrained from interfering. There was knife play’, the agility displayed by the fighters being remarkable. Two were killed and nine woVmded in half an hour’s battle. The Civil Guard then appeared, and charged with fixed bayonets, stopping the fight. They arrested twenty men and fifteen women.
