Mr Charles Brookfield, tho dramatic censor, is dead. , [Mr Charles Hallam Brookfield, horn in 1857, was educated at Westminster and Trinity College, Cambridge. He won the Winchester Reading Prize m 1878. For many years he was on. tho staff of the “Saturday Review.” Later he entered the Inner Temple, but was never called. In 1879, ho went on the stage with the Haymarket Company, under the Bancrofts, and until 1885 continued his theatrical career. As a novelist, Mr Brookfield was fairly well known. Besides, he . wrote between forty and fifty plays. He was appointed Joint Examiner of Plays in 1911. His wife is also a novelist.] MR ARTHUR CHAMBERLAIN. LONDON, October 20. The death is announced of Mr Arthur Chamberlain. [Mr Chamberlain was a brother of Mr Joseph Chamberlain, M.P., and uncle of Mr Austen Chamberlain, M.P. He was prominent in business circles in Birmingham. For a number of years he occupied the position of chairman of Kynooh’s, Ltd., and throe other largo trading firms. Ho was a keen Free Trader.] INVENTOR OF COLD STORAGE. PARIS, October 20. M. Charles Tellier, tho inventor of artificial cold storage, is dead. [M. Charles Tellier, the French savant, inventor of cold storage, and the first to send a steamer through the tropics with a temperature of frost in her hull as far hack as 1876, had until quite recently been living in reduced circumstances. The International Cold Storage Association, on hearing of his case, decided to open a public subscription in his favour. The Argentine Government contributed a sum of £IOOO to the subscription, and the Government of Uruguay, through its Legation in Paris, sent a sum of £4OO for the same purpose. M. Tellier was eighty-five years of age. He spent his whole fortune in the pursuit of his numerous discoveries.]
