DEVON SALVAGE SALE

At the Harbour Board shed on the King’s wharf yesterday afternoon, Messrs E. Johnston and Co. held an auction sale of tho material, stores, fittings, etc., salved by Messrs W. 0. Price and Co. from the wreck of the Devon last week. There was a very large muster of shipping people, metal merchants, engineers, contractors, and others. Among the principal sales effected were tho following: ■ —Tho ship’s piano, £lscabinet washstand;, up to £3 2s Gd; telescope, £1 7s; cabin cushions, up to £1 os; two small sideboards, £1 6s and £1 7s; mahogany panels, £1 Is each; oak book-case, £4; coils of wire rope, £2 10s per cwt; saloon chairs, from 13s to £1; life-buoys, up to 8s each; piano stool, 15s; gong, 13s; twelve bunks, at £1 os each; cabin doors, £1 each; dinner and tea plates, 4s, 4s Gd, and 5s a dozen; brass, up to 7d per lb; copper, 7d per lb; a lot of collapsible washstands, at Is 6d each ; a lot of coloured blankets, at 7s Gel a bundle, with three pairs in each. There were also a lot of ship’s crockery, silverware, kitchen utensils, paints, and miscellaneous material. At 7 o’clock yesterday morning, Mr W. C. Price and ev party of men were taken out to the Devon to resume salvneo work. It is probable that they will Urvo another load of material ready for sending to Wellington tomorrow or on Friday, and another auction sale will be held later.
